<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU4eWYNRzqrtz3tK89FajDgoJI2unVSWEB2eB4VD0XQ3lZ8INQT9AsZF9PXomXo1DR_BozgAqWckRkjGehpl6qWyMvvSyeqXceMtmnnR0wz_OH4l2BvdI-di05A2HSiS_7-BwHoIXcrae-/s1600/coson+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="1024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU4eWYNRzqrtz3tK89FajDgoJI2unVSWEB2eB4VD0XQ3lZ8INQT9AsZF9PXomXo1DR_BozgAqWckRkjGehpl6qWyMvvSyeqXceMtmnnR0wz_OH4l2BvdI-di05A2HSiS_7-BwHoIXcrae-/s400/coson+pic.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><b>NCC</b> gave a directive that the status quo should be maintained as it was on December 7, 2017 and a forensic audit carried out and thereafter further right decisions will be made, till date, what we have seen is the COSON house being locked and all we hear is that “NCC cannot decide the Chairman of COSON “; we think that is missing the point and what is being said. </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Why do we like to fan out smoke and not look at substance? It’s a simple matter really, way before this chairmanship issue, <b>COSON</b> knows that a lot of artistes and managers, especially those of the younger generation are wary of COSON. They complain severally of non-payment and irregular communication, this is saddening, when you also consider that most have made efforts to get to COSON and not gotten a favourable feedback.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Most artiste and managers would love to see a forensic audit carried out at COSON, an audit that will tell in the last 5 years how much has come in and how much has gone out, has COSON stayed within the 30% limit stipulated by law? What are the log details used? How do we determine what any artiste gets without proper log details? Do we get these details from the radio station? This isn’t a witch hunt, it’s a way to restore confidence in COSON for the artistes who own the rights to the songs, on whose behalf COSON collects royalty. Trust has been broken, whether knowingly or unknowingly, either due to a real reason or a perceived one, trust has been broken. How do we restore this trust? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">It is not about “fighting for Chairmanship”, let the courts interpret that, but for anyone to say the regulator that has the right to withdraw your license (if there is an infraction) cannot call for an audit, we think that is a case of dancing naked in the market square. They are the regulators, they can call for an audit to determine if you are within best business practice. We encourage we all allow them to do this audit and help restore confidence back in COSON so we can move forward. It is even a great move for COSON itself! If everything is found to be well, would that not say volume of the competence of the leadership under which such good records was achieved? What exactly are we afraid of? Why are we against a forensic audit?</span></div>

However, of particular concern, was the role and seemingly silence of the regulatory body, <b>Nigerian Copyrights Commission</b> (NCC) in this matter. <span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">It was a remarkable day, as many
media houses came with their teams to cover the unveiling of plans for the 2017
edition of NTCA, held on Tuesday 28th February at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">The Nigerian Teens Choice Award, an
initiative introduced in 2012, is a platform which recognizes, encourages and
rewards outstanding teenagers, youths, personalities and celebrities with
overwhelming achievements and Excellence. Within the last 5-years of its
existence, NTCA has experienced a huge turnout of over 2,000 people attending
the show, which is very remarkable and truly an event filled with the largest
numbers of Teenagers and young adult in Nigeria.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">This year, 2017, in Lagos, NTCA
would as usual be awarding many Nigerian Youths and Teenagers, who are driving
their own future by fashioning opportunities for themselves. This would be
achieved by making teenagers from all over Lagos; especially in the grassroots
level, undertake different entrepreneurial ventures with the aim to bring out
their hidden stars and talents.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">According to the organizers, Blessing
Okoh (Project Coordinator for NTCA 2017) and Mr Victor Atewe (Public Relation
Strategist), when you search online today the word "Nigerian
Teenager" all you see is negative news, teenage pregnancy, teen marriage
and its likes. Adding to that, a United Nations report in 2013 had it that,
Nigeria has the highest level of school dropouts, most of which were teenagers.
But the Nigerian teenager should be better than that and that's the aim of
NTCA. "The teenagers have been yearning for a platform and now they are
telling you - we exist, we have a platform. Nigerian Teen Choice Awards is a platform
of teens, for the teens and by the teens, but we cannot do it on our own, we
need the encouragement of our parents and corporate bodies.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

brand is keen on promoting and encouraging them, to ensure they feel the drive
to do more.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_ZU6SwzjJJis7rPZZjL_4IdaYVs4S5PbL90SelGFyAnZNAAeoalTwzbbne6brRr3xpk89t15mXg26Ky81I5kek0CVvjpi6vasbnqOeBWgymsRxU15w4IihOG86DdrrO3qRzXMPzBnjClQ/s1600/timthumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: black;"><img border="0" height="123" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_ZU6SwzjJJis7rPZZjL_4IdaYVs4S5PbL90SelGFyAnZNAAeoalTwzbbne6brRr3xpk89t15mXg26Ky81I5kek0CVvjpi6vasbnqOeBWgymsRxU15w4IihOG86DdrrO3qRzXMPzBnjClQ/s320/timthumb.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Ok, so your parents paid good money for your education; you went to a good school, you’re eloquent, a good degree and grade in the kitty, now all you have to do is get a good job, make some money, buy your parents some gifts now and then and make them happy as you steady climb the ladder of corporate success, right?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">But wait oh! You actually want to carry on with your undergraduate days passion of talent managing “Yoh and the boys” in real life? Is that how you intend to feed your family? Hmm…so you insist you want to follow passion? Ok, here are some roles an artiste manager should be engaged in, to get his artiste noticed; if it will help you gain fame and fortune is entirely another matter, so don’t accuse me of selling you the short end!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Image Maker</span></b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">: Very few artistes really know how they want to sound, look or be when they start out in music. With help from your publicist, stylist, make-up artist, photographer, gym trainer and blogger (and if you have every single one of these people on your team, what are you reading my article for?), it’s your job to help create an image that will fit the sound that the artiste is in the process of evolving into. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">WARNING: This is a continuous job, as the artiste’s sound should evolve now and then so he/she stays fresh<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>

<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Project Management</span></b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">: His dad needs him, a gig needs him, his girl needs him, the restaurant down the street needs him (err…to pay the bills he owes? Through the shackles of the apartheid era, Africa stood by her side; through the songs we sang, the trade agreement made, the political and bilateral relationship cultivated or broken. While it is imperative for a country to provide for and protect its citizens via employment and basic necessities of life, these should not be done at the peril of citizens of other nations who are LEGALLY within the boundaries of such countries. What is particularly shameful is the seemingly silence of the celebrities who will jump to feature a Nigerian, Ghanaian, Zimbabwean or Kenyan Artiste in other to appeal to a wider market. Now the brothers of these artistes are being maimed and killed and none is taking a stand? This is the same country that makes foreign income from diverse artistes coming into their country to shoot musical videos? Is the message being sent that the money from other countries and not their citizen is all they welcome? If a position has been taken by some of these celebrities, it has not been loud enough to be effective and should be pushed out there to help halt these shameful acts. No country can exist in isolation, South Africans has blamed EVERYONE else but themselves for their problems. If it is true that a King who should be a Role model to his people and an ambassador of his Kingdom issued the instruction for these attacks, he MUST be tried for crimes against humanity and brought to Justice. NO NATION HAS THE MONOPOLY OF VIOLENCE! We urge the South African Government to please take urgent and pungent steps to curb this display of evil and irresponsibility. AMAMN condemns these attacks in its entirety. A stitch in time might yet still save Africans from an era of darkness, avoidable xenophobia and bloodshed.</span></span></div>

<span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Like everything else in
the music business, the role of the artist manager is changing. In the good old
days (you know, a year or so ago), artist managers largely concerned themselves
with helping the artists with whom they worked get record deals, and then –
post deal – acting as a liaison between the label and the band.</span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><br />
<span style="background: white;">This is,
of course, a radical oversimplification, and certainly neither getting an
artist a deal nor working with a label is an easy job. However, this was, for
at least the majority of artist managers, their role.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">Today, for the vast majority of managers, their
principal role is different. No longer should they be concerning themselves
with getting their artists signed. Rather, they should concern themselves with
developing and unlocking value for their bands; i.e. business development.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">If, as I think you should, you view your band as
something for which you must develop brand equity, it’s no longer about
leveraging that brand equity into a record deal. Rather, it’s about leveraging
the brand equity to create direct revenue streams, as well as strategic
partnerships where you, again, create visibility (thus increasing brand equity)
and revenue.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">All those hours spent mailing things out to
A&R people at labels, taking meetings with A&R people at labels, and,
generally, thinking about A&R people at labels, and all those hours
fighting with those at the label over marketing budgets, and everything else,
now must be hours spent doing – for lack of a better phrase – “business
development.”</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">This, again, brings us to the problem that has
plagued the industry for far too long: most managers are completely unprepared
to do business development. Most have no proper business training, and, through
no fault of their own, will flail around in a market that punishes those
without the requisite skills. Thus, most will fail. Some, on the other hand,
will take the time to learn business fundamentals, and will change the paradigm.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">Certainly, as stated above, there are a lot of
generalities in this here post; many great artist managers have long thought of
their role in terms of business development of d I do think, though, that most
haven’t thought in these terms, and I fear that too many are still thinking in
terms that revolve around getting their band signed – sort of the anti business
development.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="background: white;">So…go on
get educated, innovate, and start building something.</span></div>

<br /> The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has undergone some urgent
modifications in order to help AFRIMA better host Africa and the rest of
the world. According to the organisers, the reason for this is that a
major continental sponsor of AFRIMA was unable to conclude its
commitment by the deadline required to deliver on the world-class event.<br /><br />
Despite the fact that Nigeria has been certified Ebola free by World
Health Organisation (WHO), the sponsor stated concerns over the
increasing scourge of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in some West African
countries from where nominees, awardees and guests are expected and the
yet-to-be-resolved insurgency in Northern Nigeria.<br /><br /> In spite of
the development, the International Committee of AFRIMA is still
committed to delivering a world-class event at a later date. However,
the public and AFRIMA Academy voting on the AFRIMA website <a href="http://afrima.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2e07d5c55093d184bcb1f176f&id=2795c71366&e=e6aab821b7" style="color: #202020; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">www.afrima.org</a> has been extended by three weeks. It will now end on <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_2024364348" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Tuesday, November 25</span></span> and that means music fans still have more time to vote for their favourite artistes.<br /><br />
While speaking on the postponement of the award ceremony, AFRIMA
international Advisor, Mr. Rikki Stein, said: “A wise, albeit painful,
decision. The goals and aspirations of AFRIMA remain unchanged as well
as the commitment of AFRIMA's regional directors. This should not
diminish the determination of the AFRIMA team to find a solution. It can
only be a glittering, well produced event that can be the culmination
of so much effort. Nothing less will suffice”.<br /><br /> Thanking music
fans for their support to the actualisation of this continental award
project, the International Committee of AFRIMA sincerely apologises for
any inconveniences this development may cause their partners and
stakeholders across the world.<br /> “We hope to get back to Africa soon
with more details about the new date as we continue to look forward to
having the world with us”, Ms Adenrele Niyi, AFRIMA Project Director
said.<br /><br /><br /> With sincere regards,<br /> Adenrele Niyi<br /> Project Director, All Africa Music Awards.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
